Management Approach
In 2012, the Sustainable Customer Council renewed its commitment and finalized an action plan for the Sustainable Customers pillar. The action plan includes:
- Evaluating the sustainability profile of every product development and redesign project and utilize this data to enhance the sustainability of our products
- Engaging focused markets to provide solutions to future sustainability needs
- Improving our ability to demonstrate compliance
Brady's tagline – "When Performance Matters Most" – refers to many things, not the least of which is the performance of our products. We make products that perform in special and unique ways. From labels that adhere and remain legible in extreme temperatures to identification badges that self-expire by changing color after a pre-determined amount of time, Brady materials, along with printing systems and software, are designed to meet the varied needs of our customers. Brady is committed to helping its customers meet their sustainability goals with products that work to minimize their environmental footprint through reduced energy use, eliminating materials of concern, minimizing material consumption, lowering the use of non-renewable raw materials and reducing end-of-life waste.
Self-laminating wire markers |
Five years ago we realized, with a new product development program "Trifecta," the capabilities of Design for Environment (DfE) by designing a new self-laminating wire marking material that had better product performance, lower environmental impact and improved manufacturing cost."Project Trifecta 2.0" extends this idea to all new product development by working with a cross-functional team to build a program that drives Better Products with Better Cost Profiles that are Better for the Environment.
Making the integration of environmental considerations in our design process has become more intentional and consistent. With initiatives like "Project Trifecta 2.0," Brady will continue to focus on providing products and services that comply with regional and global regulations and protect premises, products and people, while creating new, more sustainable offerings that meet and exceed our customers' expectations now and in the future.
In 2011 we started to further build our understanding of how to make our products more sustainable. We began working with PE International - a leading sustainability consultancy - to help us integrate design for environment (DfE) principles into our new product development process. Our long term vision is to use DfE as a means to deliver on our commitment to performance while anticipating customer expectations for the environmental performance of their products. To ensure we meet our goals in this area, we have established a Sustainable Customer Council that is led by our Chief Technology Officer and Vice President of Research and Development. The council meets regularly to develop the strategy, discuss goals and objectives and to ensure sufficient progress.
